The Golden Rules
- Ask within 2 hours of job completion — satisfaction is highest, memory is freshest
- Keep it short — under 160 characters for SMS, under 3 sentences for email
- Include a direct link — every extra click you add loses 50% of respondents
- Use the customer’s name — personalization doubles response rates
- Don’t ask for 5 stars — it feels manipulative and violates Google’s terms

What NOT to Do
- Don’t offer incentives (“Leave a review for 10% off”) — violates Google’s terms and can get your reviews stripped
- Don’t send more than 2 requests — after that, you’re nagging
- Don’t use generic review gates (“Were you happy? Yes/No”) — Google banned review gating in 2018
- Don’t link to a page that asks them to sign in — use a direct Google review link
